Mentoring

I provide informed and sensitive mentoring to individuals at any stage of their artistic projects, careers and lives. I am also very happy to work with collaborative pairs or small teams.

I respond to each person’s unique goals and circumstances with insight, integrity and care. I offer set packages, detailed below, bespoke programmes and one-off consultations. Please be in touch to discuss.

I draw on over 35 years of experience as a screen director, interdisciplinary artist and educator, my work as a documentary and television director, and extensive teaching in universities, colleges, high schools and workshops world-wide.

The people with whom I work are usually artists. They may come to me looking for ideas for getting started, for input on how to shift their existing practice in new directions, or looking for support to complete a specific project. Over the years, I have mentored individuals from across the globe.

To help guide your choice of what will provide you with the best support, I offer set packages which provide a framework for working together; I am also very happy to create bespoke programmes according to your specific needs and timeline. In the past, I have provided mentorship over a few weeks or months and in other cases, the relationship has continued across numerous projects and over several years.

My mentoring usually takes place on zoom, at times which are mutually suitable, and can be in evenings and at weekends if needed.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • “Katrina McPherson’s mentorship has had a profound influence on my work. As a professional dancer/choreographer I was timid in exploring how my ideas could be realized on screen, and Katrina’s gentle and intuitive guidance equipped me with the knowledge, skill, and confidence to explore. In a field that can feel intimating I found Katrina’s approach to be gracious. Her eye is detailed when offering feedback, and she is an outside the box thinker and maker. Working with her has helped me to unlock my voice in this field and has made me curious to keep exploring.”

  • “By encouraging me to consider my personal and political motivation for making art, Katrina has helped me to seize the opportunities to reach a wider audience and expand my artistic practice through the medium of screendance.“

  • “A wonderful opportunity to learn from a very knowledgeable and friendly screendance practitioner and artist. I felt very lucky to have been able to learn from Katrina! Thank you so much.“
