CREATIVE TECHNICAL SKILLS
Screendance in the Landscape
This course offers an amazing opportunity to work with Katrina McPherson, one the most celebrated and innovative contemporary screendance artists who uses dance and film to create outstanding and acclaimed bodies of work. This intensive, hands-on course enables participants to learn directly from Katrina, taking as their inspiration the work that she has produced over a 35 year plus career. Katrina is supported on the workshop by her brother, Colin McPherson, a photographic artist whose work has been exhibited and published at home and internationally.
During the workshop week, participants will be mentored and guided through developing their technical and creative skills, using the camera in relation to dance and landscape. Each year, two professional dancers are employed as performers on the workshop and participants are encouraged to take a collaborative approach to developing their work on the island.
EXPLORATION EXPERIMENTATION POSSIBILITIES
DATES: Arrival on Easdale: Saturday afternoon. Screendance Course: Sunday until Thursday all day. Departure or optional extra rest day on the island, Friday. Departure all from Easdale : Saturday morning.
On Easdale, Katrina leads the group in a mixture of practical exercises, both collaborative and individual, designed to encourage exploration, skill-acquisition and inquiry into the form. Opportunities will be created through: facilitated exercises; open time for play and experimentation; pushing boundaries while searching for new possibilities; and the opportunity for participants to create and share their work made on the workshop.
As well as exploring the creative possibilities offered by the natural environment, Katrina is interested in sharing her observations around the nature of the embodied camera, the empowered performer and the empathetic viewer, while filming and moving in the landscape.
Places are limited to five participants for this workshop, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
